The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Born in New York City in 1931, George Firestone came to Florida as a boy with his family to settle in Miami.  Firestone served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1952.  He then went into business in Miami and became a leader in many civic organizations.
    In 1966, he was elected to the Florida House of Representative from Dade and Monroe Counties, where he served until election to the State Senate in 1972.  He left the Senate in 1974.  In 1978, he was elected Secretary of State.  He served in this position until he resigned in 1987.
Summary:     The series contains the press files of Secretary of State George Firestone from 1983 to 1987.  Types of records include photographs, press releases, and speech files.
