The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Council on Organized Crime was created by the Legislature in 1981 (Ch. 81-145, Laws) assuming the duties of the Council for the Prosecution of Organized Crime which was created in 1977 (Ch. 77-403, Laws).  The duties of the Council included determining the scope and extent of organized crime in the state and establishing policy and priorities for the prosecution of organized crime cases throughout the state.  It also advised the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives in a yearly report of its recommendations for legislation and for funding of the various aspects of the criminal justice system and of appropriate state regulatory agencies.  The Council was repealed in 1987.
Summary:     This series contains records of the Council on Organized Crime, and its predecessor, the Council for the Prosecution of Organized Crime from 1975 to 1986.  The records include reports, minutes, correspondence, memoranda, audiotapes, motion picture films, and reference materials.
