Biographical/Historical:     The Governor's Task Force on Medical Malpractice was created in the 1984 Appropriations Act.  Governor Bob Graham appointed the 18 member task force in Executive Order 84-202.  The board included among its numbers state legislators, attorneys, and members of the medical profession.  M. Anthony Burns, president and chief executive officer of Ryder System, Inc., of Miami, served as chairman.
    The Task Force's purpose was to "examine and identify issues and information relating to medical malpractice in Florida," and "develop policy recommendations addressing the legal, disciplinary, regulatory, financial and marketplace considerations necessary to assure a cost-effective, fair and reasonable system of compensation and justice in Florida."  In April 1985, the Task Force presented its recommendations to Governor Graham in a report entitled "Medical Malpractice:  "Toward Prevention and Early Resolution."
Summary:     This series contains the records of the Governor's Task Force on Medical Malpractice, 1984-1985.  The records include meeting and minute files of the Task Force, nominee and membership files, correspondence, press releases, the executive order creating the Task Force, and the final report of the Task Force.
