Biographical/Historical:     The Governor's Task Force on Emergency Room and Trauma Care was formed at the request of Governor Robert Martinez to address the crisis caused by the withholding of some emergency health services. The twelve member force was to meet and report before the beginning of the 1987 legislative session.  The twelve members were physicians, hospital officials, attorneys, insurance industry representatives, and elected state and local officials.  The Task Force was chaired by David K. O'Connell, executive vice president of Ryder Systems.  Lt. Governor Bobby Brantley served as the Governor's liaison to the Task Force.  The Task Force recommended review and adjustment of malpractice insurance rates, expansion of the Medicaid program, and review and enforcement of vehicular insurance requirements.
Summary:     This series consists of the records of the Governor's Task Force on Emergency Room and Trauma Care, 1987.  Included are cassette recordings of meetings, minutes, correspondence, reports, including the final report of the Task Force, press releases, and newspaper clippings.
