Biographical/Historical:     Daniel Ladd (1817-1872) was a prominent businessman in lower Wakulla County, Florida. Born in Maine, Ladd settled in Florida in 1833 and began working at his uncle's store. He is largely responsible for developing the town of Newport, Florida, by erecting buildings for stores, a boarding house, a courthouse, a Masonic Lodge, a turpentine works, and two hotels. He also ran the steam vessel Spray on the St. Mark's River and controlled much of the trade to the farmers and planters in northern Florida and southern Georgia.
Summary:     This collection contains a ledger documenting some of Ladd's business activities in Newport (Wakulla County), Florida. The entries document the sale and shipment of goods. It appears that this volume originated as one of several different volumes.
