Biographical/Historical:     Prior to the outbreak of the Civil War, A. B. Noyes served as the United States customs officer at St. Marks in Wakulla County, Florida. When Florida seceded, he joined the Confederate Coast Guard. Noyes subsequently took a commission as a Major in the Confederate Army and was assigned as the Chief Subsistence Officer of the Second District of the Military District of Florida.
Summary:     This volume consists of a letterbook that documents the communications between Major A. B. Noyes in Tallahassee and the officers under his command, the other subsistence officers in Florida, as well as his superiors. The last third of the volume comprises some of Noyes' correspondence following the Civil War, mostly written from St. Marks, Florida. The volume is very delicate and many pages are brittle. Most of the entries are illegible due to the inky bleed through.
