Biographical/Historical:     The Children of the Confederacy is the junior organization for descendants of United Daughters of the Confederacy and Sons of Confederate Veterans members, formed in 1896. The objectives of the organization are to broaden the scope of interest of young people in historical, educational, patriotic, and memorial activities. They also serve to perpetuate in memory the patriotism of their ancestors.

Summary:     The collection contains membership applications for disbanded and active chapters of the Children of the Confederacy, Florida Division. These applications contain familial information that connects the applicant to the respective Civil War veteran. In addition, these applications may provide the date and place of birth, marriages, and/or death of the veteran; the military unit served in and battles fought; and time and place if killed in action or died of wounds. Information of a similar nature is provided if the person was a civilian government officer or a private citizen who aided the Confederacy. The earliest applications provide minimal information; after about 1925 the applications contain more complete genealogical information.
