Biographical/Historical:     The Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Halifax River Railway Company was incorporated in February 1881. The company constructed more than 36 miles of narrow gauge railroad, running from the south bank of the St. Johns River, opposite Jacksonville, to St. Augustine. The railway company began operation in 1883 from its offices in St. Augustine. In December 1885, railroad financier Henry Flagler purchased the company's stocks and bonds. In 1896, the Florida East Coast Railway acquired the company.
Summary:     This collection contains a microfilmed copy of a payroll ledger of the Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Halifax River Railway Company. The ledger sheets are for various departments and services for the months of January and October 1886, July and August 1887, and January through December 1888.
