Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Art Education Association is primarily concerned with the continuation and betterment of art programs in the schools of Florida. It began in the 1950s as a small band of concerned teachers who called themselves the Florida Art Teachers Association. By the end of that decade the Association merged with the small state group of Black teachers and changed its name to the Florida Art Education Association. In the early 1960s, the State Department of Education appointed the first state art consultant, Neil Mooney, and in 1971 the Association became the first state art organization to join the national Art Education Association. The Association promotes art at all education levels through conferences, workshops, and other programs. Youth Art Month is one of the Association's major programs and occurs annually in March in public schools across Florida.

Summary:     The collection contains scrapbooks of the Florida Art Education Association commemorating its annual Youth Art Month. The scrapbooks contain correspondence, photographs, publications, flyers, and other materials used in or produced by the Association in promoting this event. Also included are two reports on the Youth Art Month program produced by the State Department of Education.
