Biographical/Historical:     The Arlington Bluff Association was a land development corporation in Jacksonville (Duval County), Florida. It originated as the Florida Winter Home Association in the 1860s or 1870s with the purpose of selling Florida residential properties to northern investors and winter tourists. In 1873, shortly after its formation, the name changed to the Arlington Bluff Association. The Association owned a tract of land, known as Arlington Bluff, at the convergence of the Arlington and St. Johns Rivers in Duval County.

The Association intended to develop the area "as a religious and moral community" of Northerners and Westerners who wanted to escape the harsh winters of their native climates. Designed for winter cottages, portions of land were also set aside for parks, camp meetings, a church and schools. Lots were to be leased for 99 years so the Association could better control development. A portion of proceeds from lot sales was earmarked for the support of the recently-established Cookman Institute in nearby Jacksonville. The Association also had plans for a hotel and boarding house.

Summary:     This collection contains a broadside that the Arlington Bluff Association published to promote its community in Duval County. The broadside includes a map, a list of officers and stockholders, and a brief description of the proposed community.
