Summary:     This collection consists of maps drawn by French cartographers in the 17th and 18th centuries that document the "New World," what is now U.S. territory from the Great Lakes region in the Midwest to the Gulf of Mexico, and further south into Mexico and the Caribbean. The maps include Mexico and the Caribbean (1688), the Great Lakes area (1688), the lower Mississippi region (1718), the Gulf Coast and Great Lakes area (n.d.), North and South America (1740), the Gulf of Mexico (1750), the St. Lawrence River (1755), and a map of the Great Lakes area (1755).

    The cartographers include Vicenzo Marie Coronelli, Nicolas de Fer, Gilles Robert de Vaugondy and Jacques Nicolas Bellin.
