The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     James Hunter Williams was the eleventh Lieutenant Governor to serve Florida.  After service in the U.S. Air Force, he entered the family agriculture and mining businesses in Georgia and Florida.  He was first elected to the Florida Senate in 1968.  Williams was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1974 during Governor Askew's second administration.  The Governor also appointed Williams as Secretary of the Dept. of Administration.
Summary:     This series consists of subject files maintained by Jim Williams from 1975 to 1978.  They include correspondence, reports, publications, speeches, and newspaper clippings that pertain to Williams' service as both Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of the Dept. of Administration.  The correspondence illustrates Williams' views on such diverse topics as capitol punishment, the Cross Florida Bar Canal, and the Career Service Retirement System.
