The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Lawton Mainor Chiles, the forty-first Governor of Florida, began his gubernatorial term in 1991 after defeating incumbent Governor Bob Martinez. Chiles served in the State House (1959-1966) and Senate (1966-1970). Prior to being elected Governor, he had served in the United States Senate from 1970 to 1989. Chiles died in December 1998, shortly before completing his second term as Governor.
Summary:     This series contains the incoming constituent correspondence sent to Governor Chiles and then routed to the Legislative Affairs Office in relation to pending legislation throughout the 1991 and 1992 sessions. Some of the topics include the Civil Rights Act of 1992, taxation, funding for education, food irradiation, and a smoking ban.
