Pasco County was established in 1887 by an act of the State Legislature.  It was formed from the southern portion of Hernando County.
    Each of the sixty-seven Florida counties has a county court which handles civil matters involving less than $5,000 and criminal misdemeanor cases.  The next highest Florida court is the circuit court.  There are twenty judicial circuits in Florida.  The circuit courts handle appeals from county courts, civil disputes involving more than $5,000, probate matters, criminal prosecution of felonies, juvenile matters, chancery, property matters, and tax disputes. There is a Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county who serves as the official custodian of county and circuit court records including property, probate, naturalization, and vital records.

    This series consists of dockets from Pasco County, Florida, from 1884 to 1974.  The records include, from the circuit court: bench dockets (1887-1970), conviction dockets (1893-1972), default and final judgement dockets (1916-1970), an equity docket (1887-1907), execution dockets (1897-1974), law dockets (1911-1967) lis pendens dockets (1892-1971), a program docket (1911-1926), judgement dockets (1888-1954), a judgement lien record (1938-1953), and a judgement docket index (1884-1954); and from the county court: a civil docket (1906-1972), civil bench dockets (1911-1957), criminal dockets (1895-1918), criminal bench dockets (1911-1972), an execution docket (1911-1971), judgement dockets (1911-1952), law dockets (1922-1973), a subpoena docket (1967-1971), and default and final judgement records (1917-1970).
    A docket is a book containing a brief entry of all the important acts done in court in the conduct of each case, from its inception to its conclusion.  The name of the docket indicates its purpose; hence, criminal dockets list criminal cases, bench dockets are used by the bench (judge) as a calendar and record of cases, lis pendens dockets list cases involving land title disputes, etc.  Most of the dockets are indexed.
