Biographical/Historical:     Walton County was created by an act of the Florida Legislative Council on December 29, 1824 (Laws).  It was formed from the eastern portion of Jackson County.  Walton County's boundaries were altered several times over the years.  The creation of Holmes County in 1848 altered the northeastern portion.  A boudary change with Santa Rosa County in 1852 altered the western portion.  The creation of Okaloosa County in 1915altered the western half of Walton County. The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of microfilm copy of the deed records for Walton County, Florida from 1850 to 1936.  The series contains a general index to deeds (1850-1912) and deed records (1885-1936).
    In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another.  Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.
