Biographical/Historical:     Jefferson County was created from the eastern portion of Leon County on January 6, 1827 by an act of the Legislative Council. Jefferson's northwest boundary with Leon County and its northeast boundary with Madison County changed slightly several times throughout the 1800s.  The county government is headed by a Board of County Commissioners whose records are maintained by the clerk of the circuit court in the county courthouse.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the minutes of the Board of County Commissioners of Jefferson County, Florida, from 1897 to 1924.  The minutes record the proceedings of the meetings of the County Commissioners.  Subject matter includes local taxes and finances, county officials and employees, and county road maintenance and repair.
