Biographical/Historical:     Madison County was created by an act of the State Legislature on December 26, 1827.  It was formed from the eastern part of Jefferson County.  In 1856, the southern half was divided to create Taylor and Lafayette counties (Chap. 806, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the circuit court minute books of Madison County, Florida from 1876 to 1892.  The series contains the minutes of court proceedings (1876-1892).  The court proceedings include larceny, robbery, assault, medical practice without a license, adultery, murder and forgery trials.
    The minute books record and summarize the cases occurring in court.  The information includes the names of the grand jurors and the "petit" jurors selected, names of the accused, the crime, the verdict and the disposition of the case.  The judges and the state's attorney are also named.
