Biographical/Historical:     Madison County was created by an act of the State Legislature on December 26, 1827.  It was formed from the eastern part of Jefferson County.  In 1856, the southern half was divided to create Taylor and Lafayette counties (Chap. 806, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the common law progress dockets of Madison County, Florida from 1877 to 1927.  The series contains progress dockets (1877-1927).  The docket records the progress of the cases heard before the court, listing each action taken on the case with its date and cost.  Other information includes the names of the involved parties and of their attorneys and the cause.  Causes are wide ranging and include divorce, mortgage foreclosure, assault and larceny.
