In 1838, Calhoun County was created in part from southeast Washington County (Territorial Laws, 16th session, no. 8).  The line between Washington and Calhoun Counties was altered slightly several times in the late 1800s, including in 1873 (Laws, Ch. 1950).  In 1913, Bay County was created from the southern portion of Washington County (Laws, Ch. 6505).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary: ********** D E A C C E S S I O N E D **********    This series consists of a microfilm copy of the delayed birth certificates of Washington County, Florida, from 1943 to 1954.  The delayed birth certificate is a record that registers a birth after the fact and is usually issued by a place of later residence rather than the place of birth.  The certificates were issued between 1943 and 1954, but the actual birth dates range from circa 1873 to 1947. The certificate provides such information as applicant's name, date of birth, and place of birth, as well as the same information for the applicant's parents.  The information contained in the application can be supported by family, school, and insurance records or by affidavit of persons with definite knowledge of the facts.  Most certificates in the series abstract the supporting evidence.  The books are indexed.
