Biographical/Historical:     Lafayette County was formed from part of Madison County by an act of the State Legislature on December 23, 1856 (Ch. 806, Laws). The Lafayette County Courthouse was destroyed by fire on December 31, 1892.  In 1921, Dixie County was created from the southern portion of Lafayette County (Ch. 8514, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of a progress docket kept by the Third Circuit Court of Lafayette County, Florida from 1893 to 1910.  The docket records the progress of the cases heard before the court, listing each action taken on the case with its date and cost.  Other information includes the names of the involved parties and of their attorneys and the cause.  Causes are wide-ranging and include divorce, mortgage foreclosure, assault, and larceny.  The bulk are divorce cases.
