Biographical/Historical:     Hernando County was created on January 22, 1850 by an act of the Legislature (No. 104, Laws) which changed the name of Benton County to Hernando County.  Citrus and Pasco counties were created from portions of Hernando County on June 2, 1887 (No. 22, Laws).  The Hernando County Courthouse was destroyed by fire in September of 1877.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of the will books of Hernando County, Florida from 1884 to 1936.  A will is a legal instrument by which a person declares how they wish their property or estate to be disposed of after their death.  Wills usually contain direct statements of relationship between the deceased and his family and denote ownership of specific property and goods. Each volume contains an index.
