In 1838, Calhoun County was created in part from southeast Washington County (Territorial Laws, 16th session, no. 8).  The line between Washington and Calhoun Counties was altered slightly several times in the late 1800s, including in 1873 (Laws, Ch. 1950).  In 1913, Bay County was created from the southern portion of Washington County (Laws, Ch. 6505).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of the deed records of Washington County, Florida, from 1880 to 1900. In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another.  Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.  Most of the deed books include an index (see microfilm list).
