Biographical/Historical:     Saint Lucie County was created in 1905 by an act of the State Legislature (Ch. 5567, Laws).  It was formed from the southern portion of Brevard County.  (From 1850 to 1855, there was another Florida county named Saint Lucie.  It was renamed Brevard--Ch. 651, Laws.)  The new Saint Lucie County has undergone several boundary changes since formation.  In 1917, Okeechobee County was formed in part from western Saint Lucie County (Ch. 7401, Laws).  In 1925, Indian River County was created from northern Saint Lucie County (Ch. 10148, Laws).  Also in 1925, Martin County was created in part from the southern portion of Saint Lucie County (Ch. 10180, Laws). The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the marriage records of Saint Lucie County, Florida, from 1905 to 1948.  Marriage record books consist of the recorded copies of marriage licenses.  They document when a couple applied for the marriage license, when they were married, and who performed the ceremony.  The books are indexed by the last names of both brides and grooms.
