Biographical/Historical:     Liberty County was created in 1855 by an act of the State Legislature from portions of Gadsden and Franklin Counties (Ch. 771, Laws).  In 1909 the boundary between Liberty and Gadsden Counties was altered slightly by the Legislature (Ch. 5966, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the marriage records of Liberty County, Florida, from 1857 to 1966.  The series contains general indexes to marriages (1857-1966) and marriage records (1889-1966).  Marriage records consist of the recorded copies of marriage licenses.  They document when a couple applied for the marriage license, when they were married, and who performed the ceremony.  The marriage records are indexed by the general indexes to marriages.  There are separate indexes for brides and grooms. The indexes also index the marriages recorded in Deed Book A. Marriage Book 4 contains internal indexes to brides and grooms.
    Additional marriage records maybe found in other record series of Liberty County.  In series L161, Deed Records, marriage records for 1857 to 1876 are recorded in Deed Book A (microfilm reel 2).  In series L163, Probate Records, loose marriage applications from the 1920s are contained on microfilm reel 6.
