Biographical/Historical:     Liberty County was created in 1855 by an act of the State Legislature from portions of Gadsden and Franklin Counties (Ch. 771, Laws).  In 1909 the boundary between Liberty and Gadsden Counties was altered slightly by the Legislature (Ch. 5966, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the deed records of Liberty County, Florida, from 1857 to 1915.  The records include an index to deeds by grantors (1857-1915) and records of deeds (1857-1885).  In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another. Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.  Deed Book A also contains marriage records (1857-1876) which are indexed in series L162, marriage records.
