Biographical/Historical:     Levy County was formed from portions of Alachua County by an act of the Legislative Council in 1845 (No. XXX, Territorial Laws).  In 1877, the State Legislature enlarged Levy County by moving its boundary with Marion County farther east (Ch. 3060, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the marriage records of Levy County, Florida, beginning in 1854.  The series includes marriage record books (1864-1959) and marriage licenses (1854-1927).
    Marriage record books consist of the recorded copies of marriage licenses.  They document when a couple applied for the marriage license, when they were married, and who performed the ceremony. The marriage record books are indexed by the grooms' names.
    Marriage licenses are printed documents which a couple took to the individual who performed the wedding ceremony.  That person filled out the portion of the license certifying that the marriage took place and the license was returned to the clerk of the court.
