Biographical/Historical:     Lake County was created by an act of the State Legislature on May 7, 1887 (Chap. 3771, Laws).  It was formed from Sumter and Orange Counties.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series consists of a microfilm copy of the marriage records for Lake County, Florida from 1887 to 1975.  The series contains marriage records (1887-1929), register of marriage licenses (1912-1929) and indexes for marriage records (1887-1975).  The marriage records list the names of the brides and the grooms and the dates of marriage (1887-1929).  The indexes reference the name of the bride or the groom (1887-1975).
    Marriage record books consist of the recorded copies of marriage licenses.  They document when a couple applied for the marriage license, when they were married, and who performed the ceremony.
Marriage licenses are printed documents which the couple took to the individual who performed the wedding ceremony.  That person filled out the portion of the license certifying that the marriage took place and the license was returned to the clerk of the court.
