Biographical/Historical:     Hillsborough County was created by an act (No., 25, Laws) of the Legislative Council on January 25, 1834.  Originally a part of Alachua and Monroe counties, Hillsborough county underwent several boundary changes.  Manatee county was created from Hillsborough by an act of the Legislative Council (No. 19, Laws) on January 9, 1855. During the 1850s and 1860s Hillsborough and Orange counties were adjoined.  How they were adjoined and subsequently separated is unresolved due to confused statutes.  Two additional counties were created from Hillsborough; Polk county on December 13, 1861 (No. 50, Laws) and Pinellas county, on May 23, 1911 (No. 128, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of the deed records of Hillsborough County, Florida from 1846 to 1935.  The series includes deeds books (1846-1902) and indexes to deeds (1848-1935).  In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another.  Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.  There are direct and inverse indexes to both platted and unplatted lands.
