Biographical/Historical:     Dixie County was created by an act (Ch. 8514, Laws) of the State Legislature on April 25, 1921.  Dixie was created out of Lafayette County.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of deed records of Lafayette County, Florida from 1871 to 1893.  These records were transcribed in 1922 by the Dixie County Clerk for land situated in that part of Lafayette County which later became Dixie County.  In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another.  Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.  The volume contains an index.
