Biographical/Historical:     Dade County was created by an act (No. 19, Acts) of the Legislative Council on February 4, 1836.  It was formed from a portion of Monroe County.  Dade County boundaries were changed twice.  Palm Beach County was formed from Dade County in 1909 by an act (Ch. 5970, Laws) of the State Legislature.  Broward County was created by an act (Ch. 6934, Laws) of the State Legislature in 1915 from territory that had comprised Dade and Palm Beach counties.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of the deed records of Dade County, Florida from 1844 to 1902.  The series includes deeds (1844-1902) and direct-reverse index to deeds (1844-1900).  In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another.  Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.
