Biographical/Historical:     Citrus County was created by an act (Ch. 3773, Laws) of the State Legislature on June 2, 1887.  Citrus County was created from a part of Hernando County.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of the deed records of Citrus County and some of Hernando County, Florida from 1878 to 1948.  Deed Record Books 1, 2, and a portion of Book 3, contain records that are dated prior to the creation of Citrus County from Hernando County.  Therefore, these books may contain records that pertain to property located in what remained as Hernando County as well as property that was created as Citrus County.
    The records include general indexes to deeds for grantors and grantees (1878-1948) and deed records (1878-1901).  Books 13 and 14 have indexes at the beginning of each volume.  Book 16 is missing.
    In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another.  Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.
