Biographical/Historical:     Baker County was created by an act (Ch. 1185, Laws) of the State Legislature on February 8, 1861.  Originally part of New River County, Baker underwent one additional boundary change in 1911 (Ch. 6244, Laws).  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of the deed records of Baker County, Florida beginning in 1877.  In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another.  Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts.  Among the most common types are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.  The records in the series include deed books beginning in 1877 and indexes by grantee and grantor from 1877 to 1933.
