Biographical/Historical:     Leon County was created by an act of the Legislative Council of Florida on December 29, 1824 (Laws).  It was formed from the eastern half of Gadsden County. The boundaries of Leon County underwent several changes through out the years.  When Wakulla County was created in 1843, the southern boundary of Leon County was changed. The boundary between Leon County and Jefferson County was altered several times (1829, 1831, 1832 and 1881) before it became permanent.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series contains the records of sales of personal estates maintained by the County Court of Leon County, Florida from 1860 to 1889.  The volume is marked as Book 2.  The volume contains information regarding the sale or auction of personal property belonging to the estate of individuals.  Most entries list the type of personal property sold, the purchasing price, and the name of the purchaser.  Among the personal property sold at auction were slaves.  In most instances, slaves were listed by name, age, purchase price, and name of purchaser.  A name index is included in the volume.
