	Biographical/Historical:	On January 30, 1845, Mosquito County was renamed Orange County by an act of the Legislative Council of Florida. Prior to the name change, Mosquito County had been one of the largest counties in Florida when it was created by the Legislative Council on December 29, 1824. In 1844, the county was reduced by half when Saint Lucia County was formed from the southern portion of Mosquito County. After the name change, Orange County underwent several boundary changes when other counties were created. The boundaries changed when Volusia County was created in 1854, when Lake County was created in 1887 and when Seminole County was created in 1913. During the 1850s and 1860s, Orange County and Hillsborough County were adjoined. How they were adjoined and subsequently separated is unresolved due to confused statutes.
	Summary:	This series consists of a microfilm copy and some paper copies of the marriage records for Orange County, Florida from 1869 to 1951. The series contains marriage licenses-paper copies (1869-1927), marriage licenses-microfilm copies (1869-1951), marriage records (1869-1951), indexes to marriage records (1869-1950), affidavits for marriage licenses (1920-1928) and marriage applications (1907-1931). The book and page numbers cited in the indexes do not correlate with the numbers on the record books themselves. The following table is provided for purposes of cross-reference: "Old Book" refers to Book 2 (1881-1883) - MF004 "1-A" refers to Book 1 (1869-1881) - MF001 "1-B" refers to Book 4 (1887-1899) - MF004 "2" refers to Book 2 (1899-1909) - MF001 "3" refers to Book 3 (1909-1915) - MF005 "3-A" refers to Book 3 (1883-1887) - MF004 The remaining books are indexed under the number which appears on the cover. Marriage licenses are printed documents which the couple took to the individual who performed the wedding ceremony. That person filled out the portion of the license certifying that the marriage took place and the license was returned to the clerk of the court. Marriage record books consist of the recorded copies of marriage licenses. They document when a couple applied for the marriage license, when they were married, and who performed the ceremony. These volumes also contain indexes. Applications for marriage license document the applicants' names, age, race, birthplace, occupation, and whether either of the applicants had previously been married. Applications sometimes included affidavits and once completed were often used as the marriage license, containing the date of the wedding and who performed the ceremony. Affidavits for marriage licenses state the couples age at the time of application. If either of the couple were underage, the affidavits contains the parent or guardians consent for the marriage to take place. Affidavits could either be a part of the application for marriage license or a separate document. These volumes also contain indexes.
