Biographical/Historical:     The Kentucky Confederate Pension Act was passed on March 4, 1912, for the compensation of Kentucky Confederate veterans.  The Confederate Pension Board was composed of the Governor, Auditor, and Secretary of State.  In 1914 the act was repealed and the Confederate Pensions Department was created with its commissioner deciding on all applications.  Further reorganization in 1936 incorporated Confederate pensions into the Dept. of Military Affairs as the Division of Confederate Pensions.  Finally, after 1942, the Dept. of Finance handled the applications.
Summary:     This series contains over 4,800 files of applications and supporting documents of Confederate veterans and their widows who applied for pensions in Kentucky under the legislative acts of 1912 and 1914.  These records may include date of birth, the place of enlistment, unit served, if any participation in battles and if so where, physical description, where discharged from CSA service, time and place of marriage, and economic or physical condition at time of application.
Finding Aids: Roll one contains an index arranged alphabetically by veteran's or widow's name with corresponding document number(s).  Following this is a list of veterans and widows and their home post office, arranged alphabetically by county.
