The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     In 1970, the Senate Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting (1970-1972, 1991-1992, 2002, 2014) became a standing committee with a permanent staff under the provisions of Ch. 68-35, Laws.  The Florida Constitution requires that the state legislature redraw the boundaries of its voting districts after each decennial census (Article III, Section 16, 1968 Constitution).  This Committee reviewed reapportionment legislation for the 1970 census.
Summary:     This series contains the records of the Senate Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting from 1970 to 1972, 1989-1992, 2002, and 2014.  The records include bill files, meeting files, subject files, and maps.  It documents the redrawing of the boundaries of the state's voting districts based on the 1970 census.  Also included are public hearings and teleconferences on reapportionment from 1991-1992, as well as Congressional Apportionment, Reapportionment, and Redistricting meeting and bill files from 2002.
