Summary:     This series contains the reading files maintained by the Office of the Secretary, Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. The files contain correspondence, memoranda, orders, contracts, leases, and other materials reflecting the administrative duties of the Secretary and the activities of the Department relating to such areas as medicaid, child abuse and neglect, foster care and adoption, food stamps, residential placement services, and vaccination programs.
    Secretaries whose files appear in the series are: James A. Bax (1968-1971); Emmett S. Roberts (1971-1974, 1975, 1978-1979); Oliver J. Keller (1974-1975); William J. Page (1975-1978); David H. Pingree (1979-1980, 1981-1987); Alvin J. Taylor (1980-1981); and Gregory L. Coler (1988-1989).
