Biographical/Historical:     Florida's contribution to the 1964-1965 World's Fair in Flushing, New York, was intended to be a showcase of all that the state had to offer. Fairgoers could visit Florida's large pavilions to view an exhibition of the activities of many large Florida companies, sample the state's famous citrus, or enjoy watching alligator wrestling with the Seminoles, a porpoise show, or a water skiing spectacle. Presiding over the area was the "Citrus Tower," topped by an illuminated fifteen foot orange. Also featured were murals by artist Lee Allen and a reptile showcase courtesy of Florida's Ross Allen. Though the fair as a whole experienced its share of financial troubles, the Florida pavilion proved to be a popular attraction.

Summary:     The series contains the administrative files of the Florida World's Fair Authority as maintained by the Florida Development Commission. The records consist of correspondence, blueprints, reports, minutes, contracts, and promotional and fiscal materials pertaining to the planning, development, and operation of Florida's exhibit at the New York World's Fair (1964-1965).
