Biographical/Historical:     The Suwannee River Water Management District was created in July, 1973 as one of the water management districts for the State of Florida (Ch. 72-299; Ch. 73-190, Laws).  It covers the Suwannee River Basin from the Florida-Georgia line to the Gulf of Mexico. This includes the counties in north central Florida of Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, and Union, and parts of Alachua, Baker, and Jefferson counties.
    The governing board is composed of nine members who reside in the district.  It meets at least once a month.  The Board is authorized to issue orders and permits; make contracts; conduct surveys and investigations; prepare engineering plans; adopt an operating budget; and enforce all laws relating to water resource management in their district.
Summary:     The series contains the minutes of the Suwannee River Water Management District governing board from November 29, 1973 to December, 1991.  It documents the topics of discussion, decisions made, and actions taken by the Board.  In addition to the minutes of meetings, the records include resolutions, proceedings, corporate acts, certificates, bonds, and budgets.
