The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Funds for financing the public schools was established in 1931 (Ch. 14829, Laws) as the Public Free School Funds.  In 1947, the legislation was revised and provided for the State Minimum Foundation Program Fund (Ch. 23726, Laws).  The public school fund became the Florida Education Finance Program in 1973 (Ch. 73-345, Laws).  These funds guarantee a basic minimum education for all children in the state insofar as fiscal provisions can provide such a guarantee.  State support of each county is a variable which depends upon the wealth of each unit and its ability to provide for education from its own resources.  It ensures that a uniform minimum quality of education is established throughout the state. 
Summary:     This series contains the files of the Minimum Foundation Program from 1963 to 1973.  The records consist of the statistics of the fiscal aspect of the program, including how much each county spent on its education system.
