The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Education Standards Commission under the Dept. of Education, Division of Human Resource Development was created by an act of the Legislature on October 1, 1980 (ch. 80-190, Laws).  The Commission consists of twenty-four members appointed by the State Board of Education from nominations by the Commission of Education and subject to Senate approval.  The duties of the Commission are: to recommend to the State Board of Education standards for approval of preservice teacher education programs; recommend objective, independently verifiable standards of measurement of competence for teachers; recommend guidelines for expenditure of funds for teacher education centers and recommend the most feasible locations for such centers; and develop standards of professional practice for teachers.
Summary:     This series consists of minutes of the meetings of the Education Standards Commission from 1980 to 1992.  Also included are the meeting agendas and attachments including annual reports of the Commission, reports of the various Commission task forces, clippings, and publications.  Subject matter consists of teacher certification, education and assessment; legislation relating to teaching and education; teacher education centers; and other topics related to the teaching career such as curricula and ethics.
