The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The State Board of Public Welfare was created in 1927 (Ch. 12288, Laws of Florida).  The Board supervised persons paroled from state institutions; developed public welfare services on a county-wide basis; and licensed and inspected child welfare institutions.  The Board gathered data regarding the welfare conditions and needs in the state in order to make recommendations to the Governor and Legislature.  The Social Welfare Act of 1935 (Ch. 17477, Laws) abolished the Board, replacing it with the State Board of Social Welfare, which became the State Welfare Board in 1937 (Ch. 18285, Laws).
