The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Cuban Refugee Medical Program was operated by the Metropolitan Dade County Department of Public Health.  The program used federal funding channeled through the Cuban Refugee Assistance Program of the State Department of Public Welfare (1961-1969) and the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services (1969-1983).  The program began in 1961 to provide medical screening for the arriving Cuban refugees and evolved to include three diagnostic clinics. Most of the clinics' staff were Cuban refugees.  The program's screening unit was abolished in 1983.  Refugee assistance is currently provided by the Department of Health's Florida Refugee Health Program and by the Refugee Services office of the Department of Children and Families.
