The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Commission on Human Relations was created in 1969 (Ch. 69-287, Laws of Florida) and was restructured in 1977 (Ch. 77-341, Laws).  An independent agency, the Commission was administratively attached to the Department of Community Affairs until 1979, when it was transferred to the Dept. of Administration (Ch. 79-190, Laws) and later to the Department of Management Services (Ch. 96-399, Laws).  To carry out its mission to promote and encourage fair treatment of and equal access to opportunities for all citizens of Florida employment, housing, and public accommodations and to promote mutual understanding and respect among all Floridians by reducing intolerance, antagonism and inter-group tension, the Commission develops policies and procedures for providing equal opportunity, recommends methods to eliminate discrimination through education, legislation, and enhancement of public awareness, and conducts investigative hearings in discrimination cases.
