The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Florida State Turnpike Authority was created in 1953 (Ch. 28128, Laws of Florida) to construct, operate, and maintain the Sunshine State Parkway between Dade and Duval counties.  The Authority consisted of five members, one of whom was a member of the State Road Department. The 1953 Legislature limited construction of the turnpike to 110 miles north from a point in Dade County.  Subsequent legislatures authorized various other routes.  The Turnpike Authority was merged into the Department of Transportation in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws) with the Department taking responsibility for the maintenance of the turnpike and its facilities.
